This is not the first time the issue of Kumawwod?s disgrace to the movie industry is coming to the fore but since most of the producers have proven recalcitrant and unyielding to the plea and criticisms from connoisseurs of the movie industry, some of us will also prove troublesome.

I still find it very difficult why movies done in the local language thrive on mediocrity. They seem not ready to do anything meaningful andright as far as movie making is concerned. Sometimes I watch some movies produced in the local language and I ask myself if the makers of those movies really have ?thinking? minds. I doubt this because, there are some common mistakes that should not be made, yet are seen in these movies. After so many years of criticizing these movie makers, most of them still write subtitles as if they are speaking Twi. The literal translations, grammatical blunders and spelling mistakes are unpardonable. Instead of employing competent people to do all these things, the story teller who is also the director, producer and sometimes an actor in the movie, chooses to use his two-by-four knowledge in the job in producing garbage for people to watch. You know so well you are not proficient in the English language so why bug yourself to do subtitles? Where do we go with such crap? I have watched a lot of Kumawood movies and 9 out of every 10 of such movies would surely have a scene that portrays witchcraft, juju or the traditional priest enchanting. I retch at those scenes and I most times don?t see their relevance in the movies. Is that all movies are about? I don?t get it that witches should always meet in camps, fight over human meat, gyrate to some songs, to portray that there is surely a witchcraft act taking place in a movie. Some of these things make the movies predictable, mundane and useless. It is also as though Kumawood is all about who can be funnier. In most of their movies, you see that there is kind of a ?conflict? between some characters especially between the protagonist and another. Where say Lilwin is the main character, one would expect that automatically he will ?fool? in acting his role. But there would be someone else like Salinko, Kwaku Manu, Sean Paul or Alateawe who would try to outdo Lilwin anytime they meet in the movie. When they do this, it prolongs the scene just because they are trying to battle for supremacy over who is funnier. It also beats my mind why in all the Kumawood movies I have watched, when someone is getting mad, they make so much noise, become so restless and start brandishing items at people. The fact is that there are most people who are calm even when they get mad. So why do we not portray that as well when casting people to play roles of mad people? You watch a Kumawood movie and it is as though you are watching an SHS play being staged. When will this end? In fact, I agree there are very brilliant Kumawood thespians like Nana Ama McBrown, Bill Asamoah, Emelia Brobbey, Akrobeto, Kyeiwaa, Agya Koo, Vivian Jill and few others but the fake ones are too many. We don?t need to do movies in English to show how good we are as movie makers. We can still do Twi movies and produce good materials if movie makers get more professional. Obviously, I think most of the Kumawood movie makers just relish the idea of producing crap and that is the reason why they keep making ?borla? movies. It is about time these bunch of jokers who call themselves movie producers and directors woke up from their slumber and upped their game because as I always say, these mediocre stuff don?t only dent the ?reputation? of the Kumawood movie producer but the entire Ghanaian movie industry.
