Kumasi Circuit Court remands car thief

Kumasi, Feb 21, GNA – A Kumasi Circuit Court presided over by Justice William Boampong has remanded an alleged car thief into prison custody.

Akwasi Agyen is standing trial for stealing a Volkswagen (VW) Passat Caravan valued at GH¢12,000.00.

His plea was not taken and he would be brought back on March 7.

Police Inspector Gulliver Kwabena Tenkorang told the court that the complainant, Tony Mensah Boahen, is a Ghanaian based in London.

He said anytime that he returns to Kumasi the accused has been running errands for him.

Police Inspector Tenkorang said Boahen came back to the country in November 2011 only to find that his VW car with registration number CR 361 Y, parked in his house was missing and Agyen confessed to  having sold the vehicle and could not account for the proceeds.

He said a formal report was made to the police and he was arrested where he admitted the offence in his caution statement.
