Former President John Agyekum Kufuor turned 75 yesterday, spending the memorable occasion in Kumasi where he received well-wishers who thronged his house to share the moment with him.

His passion for nurturing good leadership?the absence of which he said was the cause of the country?s challenges?informed his floating of the Kufuor Foundation and which found space in his discourse with a radio station even on his birthday.

During his engagement with the radio station in commemoration of the occasion, he revisited the issue of leadership, which he said should not be likened to a fruit which simply drops from the branches of the tree to the ground ready to be picked.

?People don?t tend to see that leadership doesn?t drop from a tree like, say, a ripe fruit?, Kufuor told Charles Sam of Radio XYZ.
??You need to nurture it and so this is what the John Kufuor Foundation is trying to do,? he said.
He said the Kufuor Foundation, established in August 2009, seeks to ?nurture good leadership that will then yield good governance and good governance, we believe, is the key to rounded development of our nations?.
