The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Disciplinary Committee has charged two Asante Kotoko officials following a volatile Matchday 25 Ghana Premier League clash against Karela United at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale on Sunday.
Goalkeeper Mohamed Camara and Welfare Officer Kwasi Frimpong Amos are both accused of violating Article 12(1)(i) of the GFA Disciplinary Code (2019), with the GFA setting Wednesday, March 11, as the deadline for the club and the accused to submit formal responses.
The GFA alleges that Camara confronted and verbally abused the referee using insulting language, while Frimpong Amos, a former Kotoko club captain, is accused of forcefully seizing the referee’s red card and interfering with official authority on the pitch.
The flashpoint came after defender Henry Ansu was shown a straight red card in the 40th minute, reducing Kotoko to ten men. Karela United capitalised almost immediately, with Malik Abubakar scoring the decisive goal in the 41st minute to seal the narrow victory.
The defeat leaves Kotoko fifth on the league table, seven points behind leaders Medeama SC, with potential suspensions now hanging over two members of the playing and technical staff ahead of a local derby against Nations FC.
The incident marks the latest in a string of disciplinary matters involving Kotoko this season, as the GFA maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward misconduct directed at match officials.
