Kotoko ranked Africa’s 10th best club, Hearts 23rd


The Kumasi based Glo Premier League side Asante Kotoko is the 10th best football club on the continent in the 21st century according to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics. Kotoko have won the Ghana league on three occassions dating from 2001 and accrued 783.5 points, making Kotoko the best club in Ghana.

Kotoko was also named “The African Club of the 20th Century” by IFFHS in  2010. Even though Accra Hearts of Oaks have won the Ghana league an impressive 5 times since the turn of the millennium they failed to crack the top 20.

Hearts is rank 23rd in Africa. Relegated Kumasi based club King Faisal are positioned at 53rd, while Obuasi’s AshantiGold football club and the1997 CAF Champions League runners-up, are in the 56 position.

Al-Ahly Cairo from Egypt lead the African club ranking of the 21st century ahead of the two Tunisian clubs Esperance Sportive de Tunis and Etoile Sportive du Sahel
