Kotoko fans threw missiles on the pitch after the draw with Medeama

Asante Kotoko are facing a home ban following their fans attack on the Medeama team and match officials after the Ghana Premier League game on Wednesday.

Supporters of the Premier League champions resorted to throwing missiles onto the pitch and laying siege at the exit of the dressing room after seeing their side drew with Medeama at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Kotoko missed an opportunity to close the gap on current leaders; Berekum Chelsea after the draw on Wednesday and the fans who felt cheated by referee Silas Okine charged violently on the visiting team and match officials.

The events following the game at the Baba Yara Stadium was even more shocking following an observation of a minute silence to commemorate the 12th anniversary of the May 9 stadium disaster that claimed 126 lives.

It would have been though that salient lessons were learnt from that painful disaster with supporters behaving and restraining themselves even under the compelling provocation of a referee?s incompetence.

But the Kotoko supporters threw caution to the wind and went all out to attack and intimidate their visitors and officials before, during and after the game on Wednesday.

Their shameful conduct is likely to attract the wrath of the Ghana FA?s Disciplinary Committee who are likely to slap the side with a home ban and a hefty fine as punishment to serve as deterrent to others with just five matches to the end of the season.

The Ghana FA handed a similar sanction to Ebusua Dwarfs at the tail end of last season for crowd trouble and attacks on match officials.
