Kogi Deputy Governor, Mr Yomi Awoniyi, has said the government is working with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to ensure free flow of traffic during Christmas period. He stated this at a sensitisation seminar organised by Kogi Command of the FRSC for staff of the Deputy Governor’s Office in Lokoja. He said traffic build up contributed to accidents because of tiredness, over speeding and loss of control.

Awoniyi said efforts would be made to eliminate vehicular hold up during the festive period. He said the government was mindful of the speed limits and condition of vehicles in its motorcade and called on people travelling across the state to drive with patience to get to their destinations safely.

“Slow and steady driving is more preferable to dangerous driving that kills,” Awoniyi said.

Earlier in a lecture on causes and prevention of road accidents, Assistant Sector Commander, Mr Godwin Aworawo, said the high volume of traffic on roads in Kogi was due to the state?s linkage with about 21 states.

Aworawo, who represented the Sector Commander, Mr Mohammed Garba,  said over speeding, wrong overtaking and bad tyres were responsible for several accidents on roads.
