The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, has ordered for the demolishing of some unauthorised buildings situated in all areas supposed to be water ways, in the Kumasi Metropolis.

Hon. Assibey has therefore orded an amalgamated team made of the metro city engineer, NADMO Coordinator, Metro Waste Management Director and among others, to take assessment of the buildings in four days and bring their report for the demolishing exercise to commence.

He made the notion during a tour to inspect some of the flood prone areas in the Kumasi Metro.

Some of these areas inspected includes Aboabo stream , popularly called pelele at Dechemso electoral area near airport roundabout, the drain between Tafo Nhyiaeso and Moshie Zongo and Akwatia line close to WAEC.

These are the major flood prone areas the demolition exercise will take place. Meanwhile, Some of the buildings have been submerged and abandoned by the owners whilst others are being occupied.

The Mayor also noted that, some residents in these areas are of the habit of disposing waste in the drains and streams, which have contributed to the floodings in the areas during raining seasons.

Hon. Osei Assibey thereafter, seized the opportunity to advised the people of these areas and Kumasi at large to desist from such behaviors in order to prevent any form of disaster.
