Kikwete

He hinted that this time around, camps within the party deepened, which he insisted must be done away with. ?After this national congress, we are going to have one candidate to fly our flag in the forthcoming elections.

Our camp remains one; this is what will give us massive win,? he told the fully-packed Dodoma Convention Centre on Saturday night when officiating at the party national congress.

President Kikwete emphasized that only unity will give the party victory and thus it was high time all differences ?are buried and made a thing of the past??.

He advised CCM candidates who were axed to show political maturity by respecting decisions reached by the party and its top decision-making bodies.

?Historically, these teams exist at the time of declaring presidential bids, when picking forms and when going around collecting signatures but after selection of the party?s decision-making organs they automatically end.

This is how we do it in CCM,? he stated. He told his audience that although the president can come from any political party but the best head of state would only come from the ruling CCM.

President Kikwete noted that CCM has about six million members around the country while the number of expected eligible voters stands at 23 million.

?You can see how we still have a very tough work ahead. We must join forces to attract more votes to make us emerge winners,? he said.

He called upon all party members to ensure that they take part in the ongoing Biometric Voters Registration (BVR), insisting that being a member without registration is ?useless?.

Mr Kikwete hinted that Tanzanians still have trust in CCM unlike remarks made by some politicians that wananchi were tired of the party.

He challenged leaders to visit people and collect their grievances for immediate solution, especially now when the country is heading to the general elections.

President Kikwete also praised the party?s Secretary General, Mr Abdulrahman Kinana, for restoring the party?s trust among Tanzanians.

He observed that the work done by Mr Kinana was exemplary and commendable, which will enable CCM to easily win the elections.

He affirmed that in the past three years, Mr Kinana has managed to register 38,983 new members as he toured all 31 regions on Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar.
