KIC, in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation, has launched an ambitious series of skills training programs.

This series, aims to empower women groups in selected farming communities across Ghana’s northern regions.

The initiative, designed to expand nationwide, focuses on equipping women and youth-focused groups with essential entrepreneurial skills.

These training sessions are tailored to enhance participants’ capacity to generate income and support their families through entrepreneurial activities within the agricultural value chain.

The initial training phase in the Northern sector emphasized processing groundnuts into coated roast chips, chosen for their market demand and profitability potential. Participants, including farmer associations and youth groups, received hands-on instruction in coating techniques and packaging.

Among the standout success stories is Dorcas Mdegu, a 32-year-old woman with a disability who overcame mobility challenges to excel in the program. Dorcas’s courage and determination acquired new skills and launched a thriving business producing and selling groundnut roast chips.

Her entrepreneurial journey has improved her family’s livelihood and created employment opportunities for women in her community.

Dorcas’s experience underscores the transformative impact of the training sessions, which aim to foster economic independence and spur community development, creating a ripple effect that benefits the entire community.

KIC remains steadfast in its commitment to empowering women and youth groups through targeted skills development programs. KIC aims to promote economic independence and contribute to broader community prosperity by nurturing entrepreneurship among women.

Partnering with the Mastercard Foundation amplifies these efforts, aligning with both organizations’ shared vision to drive inclusive growth and development, particularly among young people and women.

As these initiatives expand, KIC and the Mastercard Foundation anticipate a cascading effect of empowerment and economic resilience across more communities in Ghana.

The skills imparted in these programs are set to catalyze sustainable development and improve overall regional economic outcomes, paving the way for a brighter future.
