Kenya on Tuesday sought European Union’s support for its bid to secure a United Nations Security Council non-permanent seat in the period 2021-2022.

Monica Juma, cabinet secretary in Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs told journalists in Nairobi that Kenya and EU have strong relations that are underpinned by the principles of shared values.

Juma said during a joint press conference with Federica Mogherini, EU’s high representative for foreign affairs and security policy that Kenya and the EU have a structured mechanism of engagement that goes all way to the presidency level.

The Kenyan official observed that the two parties have discussed ways of increasing cooperation in matters relating to Somalia, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo as well as in multilateral issues.

The EU official said that there are currently 800 EU companies in Kenya which are playing a key role in local job creation. Enditem
