Kenya flower exporters decry high air freight costs to key markets

Kenyan flower exporters on Tuesday decried the high air freight costs to key destinations in the European Union.

Clement Tulezi, CEO of Kenya Flower Council (KFC), said in a statement that airlines have increased their freight rates tremendously and are currently charging more than double the initial cost from Nairobi to most market destinations.

According to KFC, the country’s horticulture industry, which is the third-largest foreign exchange earner, is suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tulezi said that sales of cut flowers in overseas markets have been below 35 percent in the last month. Enditem
