Kenya customs officials said Tuesday that they seized a 2.5-kg haul of cocaine from a Venezuelan national at the country’s main airport on Christmas day.

Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) said in a statement that officers seized the drugs during a routine passenger search at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Julius Musyoki, KRA Customs and Border Control Commissioner, said the narcotic substance had been carefully sealed in a false bottom slot on the Venezuelan national’s suitcase.

The drug trafficking suspect had arrived at JKIA aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight from Addis Ababa on a tourist visa.

The drugs seized have been handed over to the Anti-Narcotics Police unit for further investigations with the suspect expected in court on Wednesday.

Across the national ports of entry, the KRA has enhanced its customs and border control capacity following recent investments to ramp up its operating assets. Enditem
