Kenya has called on hospitality industry players to make use of digital marketing strategies to boost business.

Najib Balala, Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife of Kenya told investors in the industry to leverage information technology such as online bookings to enhance business, especially during the upcoming long holidays.

“Digital marketing is a tool that can help boost your reach and promote your hotel among potential customers or bookers,” Balala said on Wednesday evening in Nairobi when he presided over the launch of a tourism promotional instrument dubbed “Magical Kenya Signature Experience”.

He said digital marketing has continued to present increased competition in the digital space and called upon investors to improve their services and enhance visibility online.

“The digital space specifically for the hospitality industry has become highly competitive and as the number of hotel booking sites increase in the country, investors in the industry must take advantage of such entities to enhance their sites and secure top positions on search engines,” he remarked.

Betty Radier, chief executive officer of Kenya Tourism Board, said hoteliers needed to re-examine their business models in order to accommodate the ever-changing customer expectations.

“Investors must rethink their models in order for them to stay ahead in the game,” she said. Enditem
