Kato queen mother inaugurates community Library project

The queen of Kato, Nana Akua Siraa-Ababio III has inaugurated a community Library Project at Kato in the Asuama-Kyere Commuity.

Known as the Asuama-Kyere Community Library Project (AKCOMLIP), the mobile library is one of several projects her outfit Organization-Environment of Hope started about a year ago to impact positively on the lives of the chiefs and people of Kato, a suburb in Brekum.

At a ceremony held last month, Nana Akua Siraa-Ababio III said AKCOMLIP as a human-centered development intervention outfit, aims at reaching out to as many underprivileged and vulnerable communities as possible, in a bid to meet their pressing knowledge needs.

The outfit she said would continue to promote lifelong learning and education by ensuring easy, free access to information materials, adding that the mobile library would be of immense help to the community.

Under the slogan “Read a book a week”, the mobile library seeks to

  • To inculcate the habit of reading amongst children and the youth
  • To enable the youth to spend quality leisure time reading
  • To facilitate the teaching , learning and research in educational institutions
  • To promote cultural heritage by creating access to reading material on diverse culture and various sources of information on cultural values.

“Good governance which is embedded in accountability, will be a sham when the people who should hold leaders responsible and answerable for their stewardship, are not educated or well-informed,” says Nana Akua Siraa-Ababio III.

The development-oriented queen mother appealed to all well-wishers, corporate bodies, individuals, philanthropists, the Ghana Library Board and particularly all the MMDAs in the Brong Ahafo Region and beyond, to help in sustaining the project, by supporting it financially.
