Commercial drivers at Kaneshie in the Greater Accra region are preparing to hit the street soon to register their protest against the priority cars owned and operated by the National Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Alhaji Yaw Manu at the station.Alhaji Yaw Manu

Currently Alhaji Manu is operating about six Yutong buses for commercial purposes and on priority basis at the Kaneshie station.

Speaking to the secretary of the kaneshie lorry terminal, who refused to mention his name to this reporter, he said ?The national chairman runs all his Yutong buses on priority basis, which is something he has been doing for long so doubt drivers are complaining.

According to the drivers, who are all members of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), ?The situation here is very bad, you come to work for the whole week and you drive passengers to a destination for only once a week, the chairman?s Yutong buses have to load before any other will be loaded and this is done irrespective of the time the chairman?s buses arrive at the station?.

The leader of the drivers lamented that ?We are suffering here but you cannot complain else you are sanctioned or sacked from the station.

The drivers further said plans for the demonstration are far advanced. They noted that Alhaji Yaw Manu has made life very difficult for them and their family.

?We are drafting a proposal to be given to the police for permission before hitting the streets to stop Alhaji Manu?s Yutong buses from loading on priority,? the drivers stated.
