K.P Boateng Becomes First Ghanaian To Win La Liga After Barcelona Triumph

The Ghana international has finally captured silverware in Spain, with the Catalans lifting the 2018/2019 Spanish La Liga although he was not part of the matchday squad.

Kevin-Prince Boateng claimed his first-ever piece of silverware for FC Barcelona after their 1-0 victory over Rafael Dwamena’s Levante UD on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at Camp Nou Stadium to clinch their 26th La Liga Santander title.

Lionel Messi scored the only goal to see Barcelona beat struggling Levante on Saturday and retain the La Liga title.

The Argentina international was rested for the first half as coach Ernesto Valverde had one eye on next week’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Liverpool.

Messi came off the bench after the break and scored his 34th league goal of the season after seven minutes on the pitch.

With three matches remaining, a nine-point lead over Atletico Madrid and a superior head-to-head, an eighth title in 11 years was secured, although amazingly it was the first time since 2010 they had clinched it at the Nou Camp.

They remain on track for a third treble since 2009 with the Copa del Rey final against Valencia next month.

Boateng becomes the third Ghanaian to win the La Liga title and his second domestic league title after Serie A win in 2011 with AC Milan.

He has made only two league appearances for the Catalans since joining them on loan from Italian side US Sassuolo earlier this year with an option to buy.
The 31-year-old previous spell in La Liga was a successful one, Boateng scoring 10 goals in 28 appearances for Las Palmas in 2016-17 before leaving for Eintracht Frankfurt.
