mabel-AgyemangThe Republic of The Gambia has apponted Justice Mabel Agyemang, a former Ghanaian judge as the new Chief Justice of the country.

She replaces Justice Joseph Wowo, who was fired by the Gambian President Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh on July 19, 2013 after barely five weeks of his appointment.

Madam Agyemang is expected to be sworn-in tomorrow August 1, 2013, she confirmed to Peace FM in an interview.

Prior to her new appointment, Justice Agyemang who was called to the Ghanaian Bar in 1987, served as a member of the Gambia Court of Appeal.

She had also served as a High Court judge from September 2004 to 2008, Banjul-based The Point reported.

Justice Agyemang joined the Commonwealth Secretariat in 2004 and worked as an expert Appeal Court judge in The Gambia and Swaziland.
