WASHINGTON — China’s Vice Premier Liu Yandong said here Tuesday that she hopes the International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) can play a role in expanding cooperation with Chinese entities in fields including education, medical and health services.

MEXICO CITY — At least 16 senior citizens were killed in a fire at a nursing home Tuesday morning in Mexico’ s northwestern state of Baja California, local authority confirmed.
There were 45 people living in the nursing home, when the incident occurred early Tuesday morning at 4 a.m. local time (1100 GMT) in a rural area on the outskirts of Mexicali, a city on the Mexico-U.S. border. (Mexico-Fire)

DAMASCUS — Three car bombs exploded in a swift succession in Syria’s northern city of Hasaka on Tuesday, leaving tens of people wounded and huge property lost, a monitor group and the Syrian official TV reported.
The first explosion targeted a position of the Kurdish Security Forces, Asayish, near the Sinalco roundabout in northern Hasaka, leaving big property losses, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. (Syria-Bombings)

JERUSALEM — The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) struck a target in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip overnight following a rocket attack on southern Israel earlier Tuesday night, the IDF confirmed in a statement issued in the early hours of Wednesday.
The statement said a rocket fired from the tiny coastal territory late Tuesday hit an open area adjacent to the Yad Mordechai community, with no injuries reported. (Israel-Gaza-Rocket) Enditem
