Some stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), are threatening legal action against the chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, and the National Working Committee (NWC) if they went ahead to implement the salary package they approved for themselves.

This was even as the Presidency?s Prado Jeeps, N10m Largesse, jumbo pay also threaten to tear the same NWC apart as the deputies were left out.

The two-pronged crisis rocking the party was the main item at yesterday?s meeting of the secretariat?s top management staff. After the meeting which lasted several hours, the party denied any rift either within its National Working Committee or between the NWC and its staff.

In the new package, the National Chairman of the PDP is expected to receive N24 million per annum, an amount said to be higher than President Jonathan?s take home pay; national secretary will get N18 million per year while other NWC members would get N12 million each apart from the N50,000 sitting allowance for each of the 12 members. This is aside the housing, furniture and vehicle allowances running into several millions of naira that have also been packaged for the NWC members.

As this issue rages, eight Deputy NWC members of the party have objected to their exclusion from the salary package by Alhaji Bamanga Tukur leadership.

This was just as they alleged that their continued exclusion in benefits ranging from the Presidency?s gift of prado jeeps, N10m largesse each and exclusion from board appointments had become worrisome.

Some deputies NWC members claimed that ?we are not entitled to any salary but allowances, but since they have structured salary for themselves, we should be included.?

In April 2012 the Deputies revealed that all the principal NWC members received N10 million and a Prado or Land cruiser Jeep from the Presidency.

?By proposing such jumbo pay, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has made manifest a betrayal of trust on the party and its members.

?While issues of party reform, reconciliation and redemption continue to be neglected and made non-issues, Alhaji Tukur chose to skyrocket wages even when staff salary and emolument has been left unattended to for years.?

Meanwhile, the national director of administration of the party, Alhaji Bawa Gurama,? has described reports of intended ?showdown? by staff of the party as misleading and mischievous.

?The story is not only false in its entirety, but also a mischievous attempt to derail the cordial relationship between the NWC and Secretariat Staff. For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to make it abundantly clear that staff of the Secretariat and the NWC under the leadership of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur is united and are on the same page as far as staff welfare is concerned,? he said
