Jordan backs all efforts to restore stability and security in Yemen to preserve its unity and territorial integrity, Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh said at a meeting with his Yemeni counterpart Abdel-Malek al-Mekhlafi.

The minister stressed his country’s rejection of all coup attempts against the legitimate government in Yemen.

“We hope that the political process and negotiations will be resumed in Yemen based on the UN resolutions and the Arab Gulf initiative. We hope all these efforts will lead to a successful result ending this painful era,” Judeh said.

He called for immediate implementation of the UN resolution on Yemen No. 2216 that calls on the Houthis to immediately cease fire and give up weapons they seized from several military facilities.

The UN resolution, said Judeh, will help restore stability in Yemen and will put an end to any terrorist groups.
Jordan is part of a Saudi Arabia-led coalition to fight the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.

The coalition, made up of nine states, has been conducting airstrikes on the Houthi group on an almost daily basis across Yemen since March 26, when Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi fled to the Saudi capital Riyadh. Enditem
