President Jonathan Goodluck has finally visited Maiduguri borno state capital on a day state visit for the second time since he assumed office as president and during the boko haram insurgency.

His first visit was in March 2013 before he constituted the Presidential Committee on Reconciliation with Boko Haram headed by Minister on Special Duties Tanimu Tura ki surprisingly without public notice due to security reasons to thank and console officers and soldiers of the Division 7 of the Nigerian Army Maiduguri Thursday at the Headquarters the division Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri along Baga Road to mark 2015 armed forces remembrance day.

The president who arrived Maiduguri International Airport on a Nigerian Air force aircraft landed by 2.58 pm and was accompanied by the Chief of Defence Staff Air Marshal Alex Bade, Chief of Army Staff Lt. General Kenneth Minima and National Security Adviser to the President Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd) among others.

He was however received at the airport by Governor Kashim Shettima, Deputy Governor Umar Zanna Mustapha, Senator Maina Maaji, CP Clement Adoda, DG NEMA Mohammed Sidi Sani, Director SSS Borno State Ahmed Abdulahi, State Commissioners, BOSHA Speaker Abdulkarim Lawan, Special Advisers and politicians among others.
From the airport the president drove straight down the headquarters of the Division 7 NIGERIAN Army at the Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri Officers Mess where he addressed the 24 officers and 105 soldiers of the division.
He thanked them and assured them that his government will continue to support and cater for their welfare while efforts is being made by the federal government to improve on their welfare package and equipment.

The president further said he is aware of their problems as the service chiefs have been briefing him on all developments and government is looking bat the issues with a view to addressing them.
Jonathan also commended the Chief of Defense Staff Air Marshal Alex Bade and Chief of Army Staff Lt. General Kenneth Minima as well as the IGP for ensuring that the fight against the terrorists is on course while punting out that terrorism is a global phenomenon that almost all countries of the world are battling with.
“I am here to personally thank you and all the members of the Nigerian Armed Forces. It is easy. You are actually doing a good job faithfully and dedicatively. Terrorism as a global phenomenon you have been fighting it in the field and government is doing everything to contain with the madness”, Goodluck Said.
“As a government, we will do everything possible to assist you to succeed. Government will remained grateful to you for your loyalty and dedication in protecting your fatherland”.
President Jonathan said “the welfare of the officers and soldiers of the division will be improved. We will continue to encourage you to do your best to your country. Nigerian are pleased with what you are doing. In terms of equipment, government is doing its best to provide you with better equipment “.

” I commend the efforts of the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Staff as well as IGP in ensuring that your operations are successful. I listen to their suggestions. I thank you for your selfless service to the nation.
President Goodluck inspected the newly upgraded hospital and medical services center of the Division 7 Nigerian Army Maiduguri.

The PRO of Division 7 Nigerian Army Colonel Sani Usman said the hospital was improved with new medical facilities and equipment beds, laboratory, security fence and stand by generator among others.
He finally visited Baga IDPs at the Shettima Ali Monguno Teachers Village Pompomari area and consoled the IDPs before leaving to airport for Abuja.
His visit paralyzed socio economic acticites as most roads were closed and turned one way while residents of Maiduguri were busy chanting ‘Sai Buhari, Bama So’ all over the places as the president passed by but peaceful without any demonstration or crisis or casualty.
