Nii John Coleman, one of the contestants of last November NDC parliamentary primaries in the Klottey Korle constituency has been receiving various threats of bodily harm and suspension from the NDC Party if he continues with the court action challenging the eligibility of Zanetor Rawlings to run for Parliament.

According to a source close to the Ridge power house who has a long standing relationship with the former first family, the NDC founder seems to be very hurt by the court action that might derail the chances of his first daughter to run for Parliament and has therefore requested that Nii John Coleman distance himself from the ongoing court case or face suspension from the NDC.

“The old man is not happy at all because Zanetor is very dear to him and he will do anything within his power to see her succeed” our source who spoke to this reporter on condition of anornimity added that “there has been tension at Ridge since this court case began because nobody saw it coming…the old man himself did not predict that the other contestants would take the matter this far. He has been accusing some of the promoters of Zanetor like Rammon Dodoo and Harry Zakour of having failed to do proper preliminary research before encouraging his daughter to run”.

Asked why Nii John Coleman would be tartgeted by the founder of the NDC, he said “Nii John Coleman was suspended some years ago when he joined the DFP to resist what they described as the Founder’s oppressive attitude, so that makes it easier to bully him out of the case by threatening suspension. The aim is to break the resolve of Hon. Nii Armah Ashietey”.

The lawyer for Hon. Nii Armah Ashietey, Gary Nimako Marfo, has also indicated that his security is being threatened. In a letter to the High Court, he claimed that he is being trailed by some unknown persons.

You will recall that a few weeks ago Nii Ayitey Thompson and Nana Kwame Ofori Atta residents of Sahara and known supporters of Hon Nii Armah Ashietey were put in counterback at the Adabraka Police Station on the directive of one Constance Kwaku, a contestant in the Klottey Korle Primaries who stepped down to throw his support behind Zanetor Rawlings. He claimed that Nii Ayittey had threatened to deal with him at the court premises the next day. It turned out that he had sent Nii Ayittey a text message that ‘illiteracy is a curse’ to which Nii Ayittey responded that ‘when we meet in court trow we will see if illiteracy is a curse or not’ meaning that the ruling of the court would show whether he was right or wrong.

Nii John Coleman and Nii Armah Ashietey who contested last November NDC parliamentary primaries and lost to Zanetor Rawlings are currently in court challenging the legality of her candidature on the grounds that she is not a registered voter, a requirement backed by the NDC Constitution and the NDC Guidelines issued by its National Executive Committee.

Meanwhile the Electoral Commission of Ghana has recently revealed that Zanetor Rawlings is not a registered voter in their books.

The people of Klottey Korle have been awaiting the response of the EC since news broke that Zanetor was not qualified to run for Parliament.

However, the current twist to events suggesting that oppression and brute force have taken over in the Kloytey Korle battle have sent wrong signals to the grassroots of the party who have been openly demanding that the truth of the matter be made public.

However, this vindictive and brute style of operation by the handlers of Zanetor Rawlings have been felt by many constituents since she joined the Klottey Korley NDC race mid last year.

In an incident that was reported at the Adabraka Police station during the campaign period of the NDC parliamentary primaries, Miss Lawrencia Bossman, a branch women’s Organizer in the Klottey Korle constituency was physically assaulted at a constituency meeting by one Aziz, a known supporter of Zanetor Rawlings in the full glare of other constituency executives during an executive meeting because she among others objected to the use of a Zanetor Rawlings branded pick up van to conduct outdoor broadcast of the electoral process.
