Black Stars defender John Boye was sent off in Stade Rennes 4-1 defeat at Valenciennes in the French Ligue 1 on Saturday.

The 25-year-old received his marching orders in the 65th minute after being shown a straight red card by center referee Olivier Thual for a bad challenge.

Burkinabe striker Jonathan Pitroipa had fired Rennes in front on the half-hour mark before Maor Melikson levelled the scores soon after.

But the evening quickly turned sour for Rennes after John Boye and Dimitri Foulquier were sent off within the space of six minutes.

Boye was sent off for a professional foul ? the Ghana defender earned a straight red for a dangerous tackle on R?mi Gomis, helping Valenciennes to wallop the Red and Blacks.

Boye feels the referee took his decision to send him off.

?I think it was the referee?s discretion,? he told Ghanasoccernet.com.

This is Boye?s first red card of the season.
