The workshop that was attended by about 20 participants, aims to assess women involvement in promotion of good governance in general as well as their capacity to control public actions.

Speaking while opening the workshop, Julien Gauze from an NGO called Act for Democracy, Justice and Freedom in Cote d’Ivoire, insisted on the need for women to get involved in the country’s development process.

He noted that “even though women make up 49 percent of the population, their involvement in influencing public policy is still very minimal.”

Georgette Zamble from an NGO calling itself “Leadafricaines” said Cote d’Ivoire had initiated numerous reforms and signed various international and regional conventions aimed at promoting women.

She however noted that the government was still faced with the challenge of improving women representation in parliament and other decision making organs. Enditem
