A Circuit Court in Accra on Thursday sentenced an Information Technology (IT) Specialist to 10 years imprisonment on the charge of preparation to commit crime to wit robbery.

Richard Sackey is said to have conspired with one Ibrahim Tunde and Ahmed Massawudu to rob lawyer Geta Striggner-Quartey at Ringway Estates at Osu, Accra.

Sackey pleaded not guilty to the charge but the court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh however found Sackey guilty on the charge at the end of trial and sentenced him accordingly.
According to the court, the prosecution was able to establish a Sackey’s guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

Sackey’s lawyer in a plea for mitigation prayed the court to tamper justice with mercy, adding that the handing down a long sentence would render the convict more hardened after serving the sentence.

The case narrated by Chief Inspector Samuel Ahiabor who led the prosecution, said Sackey is an errand boy and driver to the complainant and his family.

Chief Inspector Ahiabor said on August 9, 2017, Sackey sought the assistance of Tunde and Massawudu who are witnesses in the case to rob the complainant and his family at Osu.

Prosecution said Sackey therefore drove the complainant’s black Hyundai car to Kwame Nkrumah circle and picked the witnesses to rob the complainant.

The prosecution said Sackey promised the witnesses GH¢500 when the robbery operation goes on successfully.

Chief Inspector Ahiabor said one of the witnesses, however, informed the Police on phone about the intended robbery.

The Police dispatched a team of Policemen to the scene and Sackey was arrested and in his cautioned statement admitted the offence.
