Israel has invented a surgical technology that will radically transform how surgery is done across the world with its new groundbreaking health technology ExAblate. Developed by InSightec ? an Israeli company, ExAblate is the first surgical system that combines Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Focused Ultrasound to non-invasively treat tumors inside the body without the need for incisions.

New PictureExAblate?s combination of MRI and focused ultrasound visualizes the body anatomy, plan the treatment and monitor the treatment outcome in real time. During this outpatient procedure, the patient lies inside an MRI scanner, which provides three-dimensional images of the diseased tissue and surrounding area, enabling precise guidance of the ultrasound waves. The imaging capabilities of the MRI scanner also provide real-time feedback on all aspects of the procedure which gives the physician a high degree of control over its therapeutic outcome. In addition, the MR thermometry, provided uniquely by the system, allows the physician to control and adjust the treatment to ensure that the targeted tissue is treated and surrounding non targeted tissue is spared.

Touted as the ?operating room of the future?, the technology has been predicted by Kobi Vortman, President and Founder of InSightec to replace standard operations with non-invasive outpatient procedures within the next decade. ?ExAblate has been approved to treat uterine fibroids and is currently in use in Israel, the US, Europe and Asia. Over 8,000 patients have been treated worldwide with ExAblate systems. Clinical trials are being conducted to evaluate ExAblate for treatment of other diseases such as breast, liver, bone and brain cancers.
