The Nasarawa State Internal Revenue Service (IRS) on Friday constituted a special tax force to ensure that only registered vehicles and motorcycles are allowed to operate in the state.

This is contained in a statement issued in Lafia by Okpadobo Umar, the Head of Public Relations, Tax-Payers Education and Enlightenment Unit of the IRS.

According to the statement, the tax-force is made up of the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Federal FRSC and Vehicle Inspection Officers.

The statement listed other agencies in the taskforce as the State Security Service, Internal Revenue Service, Motor Cycle Union of Nigeria and the National Union of Road Transport Workers.

The statement quoted Umar as saying that the “tax force was setup to ensure compliance with relevant laws by making sure that all vehicles and motorcycles operating in the state are dully registered??.

Umar said the tax force was also to complement the state government’s efforts toward straitening its internal revenue base.

According to Umar, the tax force will also check traffic abuses by road users, arrest defaulters and prosecute them in line with the law.

He called on road users who had not complied with the relevant traffic and tax laws to do so or face the full wrath of the law.

The statement said the tax force had two weeks to complete its assignment.
