International guests are in Namibia to attend the Nama Cultural Festival, which now in its second year is taking place in Keetmanshoop, from May 30 to June 2.

Liu Yingjun from China, who attended the festival Thursday said he has come to the festival to learn more about the Nama culture.

“I have a lot of Nama friends. We have a great relationship. I felt that it was about time for me to get to know them better,” said Liu.

The festival is an annual event in which Nama communities from southern Africa and all over the world come together to celebrate their rich cultural heritage. Nama are an African ethnic group of South Africa, Namibia and Botswana.

This year’s festival offers a dynamic programme that includes a wide range of activities such as a parade, cultural performances, traditional games, horse parades, presentations on Nama language and history, panel discussions, films, and exhibitions of traditional products, traditional cuisine, indigenous medicine and much more.
