Mr Ambrose Dery, the Minister of Interior has sworn-in a nine-member Interior Audit Committee with the mandate to advise the Ministry on sound, transparent and reliable financial management practices.

The Committee is also to pursue the implementation of recommendations contained in both the internal and external audit reports as well as Parliament’s decision on the Auditor General’s reports.

Mr Dery speaking at the inauguration said the ceremony falls in line with government’s commitment to protect the public purse as well as promote accountability in all Public institutions.

An audit committee is a high level corporate governance committee with majority of its members appointed as external members from among persons, who do not work in the Ministry of which the committee relates.

He said the Ministry was acting in accordance with the Public Financial Management Acts, 2016 (Act 921).

He said the Committee was made up of very qualified and experienced professionals, who have the capacity to deliver on their mandate.
“The Committee may additionally from time to time engage persons with specialised expertise, as may be required, for the proper and efficient discharge of its functions, “he added.

Mr Ransford Agyei, Director General Internal Audit Agency, urged members to exhibit high professional conduct and transparency in doing their work.

He called on them to abreast themselves with the Public Financial Act and know how it works and its structures, adding that “do not disclose confidential information to the public, since the Ministry is a sensitive place”.

Mr Abdul Karim Hatsu, the Chairman, said with the support of the Minister and other members, they would deliver on their mandate and give of their best.

Members of the Committee are Mr Abdul Karim Hatsu-Internal Audit Agency (Chairman), Mr Nathan Yankey- Internal Audit Agency (Member), Mr Frank Sinatra Nkrumah-Institute of Chartered Accountant Ghana (Member), Mr Walter Kwao Anati-Ministry of Interior (Member) and Ms Rose Tsorhey-Ministry of Interior (Member).

Co-opted Members are Mrs Adelaide Anno-Kumi-Chief Director (Observer), Mr E. Anan-Kakabaah-Director, Accounts (Observer) and Mr Daniel Nartey-Chief Internal Auditor (Observer) and Ms Gifty Quaye-Ministry of Interior (Secretary).
