Libya’s Justice Ministry on Sunday released the intelligence chief of the regime of the former leader Muammar Gaddafi for health reasons, a ministry official told Xinhua.

“Abuzed Dorda, a senior official of Gaddafi’s regime, has been officially released from prison for health reasons, in compliance with the decision of the Attorney General,” the official said on condition of anonymity. “Dorda left the capital Tripoli upon his release and travelled to the Tunisian capital a few hours ago,” the official added.

Dorda, among other former regime officials, has been charged with killing and suppressing demonstrators during the 2011 uprising that toppled the late Gaddafi’s regime, as well as genocide, besieging cities and villages that opposed the former regime, and misuse of public funds.
