The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has disclosed that it ready for this Saturday?s governorship and state House of Assembly elections in Oyo state.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, REC, Ambassador Rufus Akeju made this disclosure on Wednesday at an inter-agency consultative committee meeting on election security held at the commission?s office in Ibadan, the state capital.

Akeju who noted that the meeting was to ?called basically to appraise the provision of security at all levels in the course of the just concluded presidential and national assembly elections? promised that the committee is ?determined to provide a better security arrangement for the Governorship ans State of Assembly elections?.

Akeju while revealing that 265 candidates are contesting the elections from 14 different political parties in the state for the 32 state assembly seats also disclosed that 12 political parties will be presenting candidates for the governorship seat on Saturday.

He reiterated the readiness of the commission to make use of the smart card readers the way it did on March 28th saying a replacement will be made to a malfunction card reader.

Akeju advised political parties who are making ?unfounded and unsubstantial allegations of electoral fraud? against his office to wake up or embrace ?the sanity in the electoral processes of today?

According to him, ? Political parties and party functionaries making unfounded and insubstantial allegations of electoral fraud against my office are simply yet to wake-up or embrace the sanity in the electoral process of today?.

Akeju also reiterates the commitment of the commission to provide a level playing ground for all political parties in the state.
