Dr. Kudalor reiterated the position that, “law enforcement in modern day policing is a shared responsibility between the Police and the Community”, and had therefore called on society to collaborate with the personnel of the service in nipping criminals and other suspicious characters within our communities in the bud, adding that, informants would be given the needed protection as required by law. He commended the Chiefs and the People of Foase for the initiative and promised his administration would ensure that the facility is furnished with the necessary operational gadgets befitting the status of a district Police headquarters.

In his welcoming address, the chief of Foase, Nana Appiah Ampem Frimpong Bediako II acknowledged the immense contribution of his subjects in funding the project and called on society to observe such communal spirit in community development. He noted that, the second phase of the project was to construct a residential facility for the personnel of the service and appealed to government, cooperate organizations and individuals to support the initiative which he said was a work in progress. He, however, bemoaned the attitude of some opinion leaders of undue interference in the work of the police in such local communities, stressing that, “the laws should be made to work irrespective of ones status in the community”.

The Amakomhene, Nana Adu Mensah Asare II, who represented the Asantehene (the overlord of the Ashanti Kingdom) and chairman for the occasion emphasized the position of a traditional leader in a contemporary community development, adding that, “the traditional leader is seen as the agent of development and the welfare of his people”. He also noted with concern, the critical role of the police in this year’s general elections and urged them to play a neutral position to ensure peace and stability before, during and after the elections.

For his remarks, the Ashanti regional commander, COP Nathan Kofi Boakye recounted the difficulty with which the people had to travel to the Asokwa district Command to report criminal cases and other offenses, and acknowledged that, the commissioning of the facility was a timely intervention and an immense contribution to the decentralized policy of bringing the police closer to the people. He however, pleaded with the general public to provide the police with accurate information about the activities of suspicious characters in their communities and called on Nananom to initiate watchdog committees to augment the efforts of the police in the combat of crime.
