IdeaAfrica, a Non-Governmental Agency (NGO), has completed and launched of its library project at the Have Roman Catholic Basic School in the Volta Region.

A statement signed by Mr Kafui Honu, the Director of Idea Africa and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the launch is in line with the NGO’s promotion of literacy by ensuring that all school growing children everywhere have access to libraries for studies.

It said the Have library is the fifteenth of its kind and was expected to serve as a learning centre for children in and around the community.

The statement said: “The library’s shelves are stocked with 3,650 books, donated text and reference books as well as several collection of story books aimed at instilling in the kids the love for reading”.

It said that a unique feature of the Have library is its creative arts corner adding that it serves an area that allows kids to explore their creativity through arts and simple inventions
.
The statement said across Sub-Sahara Africa, 22 per cent of children are likely to be out of school and out of that 78 per cent that might be in school, access to conducive learning environments including libraries are rare.

“The situation is dire in rural areas that are characterised by slow or non-existent infrastructural development”, it said.

Addressing this shortfall, IdeaAfrica has championed the rehabilitation and building of libraries across the country,” the statement said.

It said the launch of the library followed a three-day intensive work by the organisation’s team of volunteers to get the library into shape at Have, a town situated within the Afadjato South District of the Volta Region.

“We are looking forward to a country where every child regardless of their geographical location or family status, has equal access to quality education so they we can have a second chance to dream again and see their dreams to come true,” the statement said.
