Ghanaian youngster Ema Boateng says he rejected offers from English clubs Manchester City and Sunderland in order to safeguard his career.

The 20-year-old had trials at both City and Sunderland but later opted to sign for

Swedish club Helsingborgs IF last summer on a three-and-a-half years contract.

The Right to Dream Academy graduate who has settled in well at his new club has revealed he almost joined either of the English clubs but then there was no deal in sight.

?All trips were booked but everything felt perfect in Helsingborgs,? Boateng told the Evening Post.

?I got to sample training and was offered a contract so I stayed and signed.

?I did not know whether City and Sunderland would offer a contract and the transfer window was about to close so I did not dare take the chance.?

Boateng played most of his youth football in the USA haven graduated from Ghana?s Right to Dream Academy in 2009.
