five of the gang members were arrested

Officers of the Imo State Police Command has rescued two kidnapped victims, a man and a woman.
The victims were abducted in the early hours of Thursday along Control Junction in Owerri.

The officers also arrested five members of a notorious kidnapping gang that is alleged to have been responsible for series of kidnapping in the state.

The state Police Command spokesperson, DSP Vitalis Onugu who revealed this to journalist while parading the suspects said a team of detectives acted on a tip off and stormed the hideout of the five-man gang.

He alleged the suspects were responsible for series of crimes in the state including armed robberies as well as  kidnapping, adding that the suspects came from Port Harcourt to abduct a lecturer with the Imo State University.

Baba Bolanta, the state?s Commissioner of Police however, appealed to residents to give useful information that would lead to the arrest of criminals in the state to the police, assuring that the command has enough manpower and logistics to free the state from kidnappers and criminals.
