Mr Aaron Amedzo, Ho Municipal Environmental Health Officer, is appealing to homes in the Municipality to sign up for waste bins in an effort to improve the city’s declining sanitary state.

He said Zoomlion Ghana Limited has hundreds of waste bins in stock, yet most homes in the Municipality have refused to take advantage and many are still disposing waste without regard to the bye laws.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency Mr Amedzo said the Assembly is faced with frequent spill overs at refuse holding points for use by markets and schools, now hijacked by households.

Mr Amedzo said the practice was costing the Assembly revenue and that a task force is being considered to help enforce its sanitation bye laws.

Mr Amedzo said his office is working with the Assembly to ensure that bye laws are revised and sharpened to hold grounds in the sanitation fight adding that those caught doing contrary to the laws would be punished.

GNA observed that debris were choking gutters and storm drains, while plastic waste littered the streets of the regional capital often touted as one of the nation’s cleanest.

Heaps of refuse are seen piled up inside the main lorry station, in dangerously close proximity to food vendors.
