Hearts board member Nelson impressed with Akunnor's work

Akunnor already impressing board members at Hearts

Board Member of Hearts of Oak Frank Nelson says he is already impressed with the performance of coach C.K Akunnor.

The ex Black Stars captain took charge from Serbian Nebojsa Vucicevic who was fired following a string of poor results.

Akunnor after his debut defeat to Liberty Professionals has guided the side to back-to-back wins against Aduana Stars and All Stars.

And Nelson who was at the team’s training grounds on Wednesday ahead of the weekend’s epic clash with rivals Asante Kotoko says the decision to appoint Akunnor is already paying dividends.

“It is one of the things our supporters have been looking for, to get a local coach who knows the terrain,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“I don’t think the introduction of C.K Akunnor is negative, rather it has been positive.

“He has played three matches since taking over, and he has lost one and won two matches and for me it is a good record.

“It is not only about the record, I have been to training and I have seen the kind of training he has been giving to the boys.

“And if you look at our last game against All Stars, for me I think it is the first time in maybe a decade that you can see Hearts of Oak moving the ball from one side to the other with the same pace.

“So all we need to do is to give him our support and be able to motivate him to ensure Hearts reaches the heights where the fans will appreciate.”

Hearts are currently second in the Ghanaian topflight but are a staggering ten points adrift leaders Kotoko who they play in the big Ghanaian derby on Sunday in Kumasi.
