Head Master Calls For Government To Fix All Ratchet School Blocks Now

The teachers and pupils of the Patasi-Sesease-Kokoben M/A primary school in the Asante Mampong Municipality, have appealed to the government to move quickly to fix structural defects on the school building.

The structure, they said, had become weak and they expressed the fear of its imminent collapse.

Mr. Elvis Atakora, the head teacher, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the situation was deeply troubling.

The school block, constructed in 1965, has never seen any renovation over period.

There are deep cracks on the walls, with the windows broken, the roofing torn and cement floor petered out, covering the classrooms in dust.

Classes are often disrupted as lizards, snakes and other dangerous reptiles make their way into the classrooms – sending everybody running for their lives.

Mr. Atakora also complained about excessive heat, especially during the afternoon, something that was causing huge discomfort to the children and their teachers.

They are unable to concentrate and this is affecting academic performance.

He indicated that the terrible conditions had forced many parents to withdraw their children from the school.

The pupil population has radically reduced to 118, from last year’s total of 275.

Relatedly, the Darko primary school in the Atwima Kwanwoma District, is also crying for help.

The classroom building has been left unrepaired for the past 90 years and the chief of the town, Nana Baodi Tawiah, says it is time it was closed down for major renovation.

This, he noted had become necessary to prevent a disaster – save the lives of the pupils and their teachers.
The pillars holding the structure are weak and deep cracks developed on the walls.
