About 40 participants drawn from basic, secondary tertiary institutions as well as the media and certain individuals over the week end took part in a workshop organized by HATS Community Empowerment Programme (HACEP-Ghana) on Community Radio & Television Production Moderators Training.

The workshop was to kick-start series of activities under the Youth ICT for HIV/AIDS & STI Awareness project initiated by HACEP-Ghana in partnership with the MTV Staying Alive Foundation under the theme ?Saving Lives Through Technology?
In his welcome address, the executive director of HACEP-Ghana Mr. Abass Hamza revealed that the aim of the project is to use ICT in promoting access to comprehensive, reliable and youth friendly HIV/AIDS & STI information among young people especially girls and young women in quest of behavioral changes among the youth.

The ultimate aim he noted was to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS and STI among the youth. The workshop according to Mr. Abass Hamza was also to serve, among others, as the launch pad for unveiling the Youth ICT for HIV/AIDS & STI Awareness campaign in the Tamale Metropolis. He said the programme will use Information and Communication Technology forms like community radio and television, interactive social media networks, and mobile telephony to achieve their goals.

He also noted that, they will collaborate with Persons Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) to undertake community outreach programme and organize inter-community football matches aimed at educating the youth and their communities about HIV/AIDS and STI prevention.

Mr. Hamza said they will coordinate the formation of Sing, Dance & Act for Life Clubs in school to propagate their messages.
At the end of the workshop, the participants promised to use their knowledge acquired to achieve the aim of the Youth ICT for HIV/AIDS & STI Awareness project.
