Striker Asamoah Gyan remains positive of Ghana?s chances to make the 2013 Nations Cup finals despite a below par performance against Malawi.

The Black Stars laboured to get a vital 2-0 win over the Flames at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.

Goals from Christian Atsu and Anthony Annan early in each of the halves saved Ghana?s blushes against a team they were supposed to have trounced before their home crowd in Accra.

The Black Stars were unable to translate their superior ball possession into goals as Malawi grew more and more confident as the game wore on.

Ghana?s below par performance has raised several doubts over their preparedness to make the final tournament to come off early next year in South Africa.

But Gyan who was the stand-in captain for the day insists Ghana still holds the upper hand going into next month?s return leg in Blantyre due to its quality players.

?Yes (over qualification chances) because we have a good team, we have quality players who are playing regularly in Europe,? he said.

?I don?t know the strategy the coach is going to play but we will be ready for the game (in Malawi).?
