Incumbent President Alpha Conde won a second five-year term with 57.85 percent of votes cast, according to the results.

That caused jubilation in some populous suburbs of Conakry where supporters of the ruling party sang and danced on the streets.

A large number of police were deployed in the capital as tensions rose after opposition leaders Cellou Dalein Diallo and Sidya Toure withdrew from the election one day after it started alleging fraud.

Diallo however has announced he will not file a case at the constitutional court despite the alleged voting irregularities.

He urged Guineans to remain calm and avoid any form of violence after the announcement of the provisional results. Enditem
