The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) opened the new trading week on a sharply positive note on Monday, with both benchmark indices surging to fresh record highs and market capitalisation crossing GH¢299 billion for the first time, extending what has already been a historic run for Ghanaian equities in 2026.

The benchmark GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) advanced 233.55 points, or 1.50 per cent, to close the 7,173rd trading session at 15,844.87, up from 15,611.32 at Friday’s close. The GSE Financial Stocks Index (GSE-FSI) rose 208.92 points, or 2.06 per cent, to reach 10,354.22, compared with 10,145.30 at the end of the previous session.

Market capitalisation expanded to GH¢299,562.43 million, a new all-time high, up from GH¢292,580 million recorded on Friday and reflecting continued wealth creation on the Accra bourse.

A total of 1,325,886 shares valued at GH¢5,348,621.30 changed hands during the session, as investors returned from the weekend with clear appetite for equities across the financial and broader market segments.

The Monday gains extend a year-to-date rally that continues to draw attention from regional and international market watchers. The GSE-CI has now advanced 80.67 per cent since the start of 2026, while the GSE-FSI has surged 122.81 per cent over the same period, making Ghana one of the strongest-performing equity markets globally this year.

The GSE-CI crossed the 15,000-point mark for the first time in its history as recently as March 10, meaning the index has added nearly 850 points in just four trading sessions since that milestone.

Trading continues Tuesday through Friday, with this week’s sessions unfolding against the backdrop of the Bank of Ghana’s 129th Monetary Policy Committee meeting, with a rate decision expected on Wednesday, and heightened global market volatility stemming from geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and uncertainty surrounding the postponed US-China summit.
