GSE Market Cap Tops GH¢251 Billion as Banks Power Session 7165 Rally

The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) delivered one of its strongest sessions of the year on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, with market capitalisation surpassing GH¢251 billion for the first time and both headline indices posting significant gains as banking stocks led a broad-based rally.

The GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) rose 384 points to close at 13,734.54, up from Monday’s 13,350.54, while the GSE Financial Stocks Index (GSE-FSI) surged 427.72 points to settle at 8,495.93. Total shares traded in session 7,165 reached 4,918,176, with aggregate value of GH¢39,303,092.48, the second consecutive session to record turnover above GH¢37 million. Market capitalisation closed at GH¢251.02 billion, up from GH¢244.52 billion the previous day.

The year-to-date figures tell a striking story. The GSE-CI has advanced 56.4 percent since the January 2, 2026 open of 8,781.55, and the GSE-FSI has gained 82.8 percent since its January 2 position of 4,648.13, both indices tracking well ahead of annual forecasts issued at the start of the year.

Ecobank Ghana Plc (EGH) was the session’s standout performer, surging GH¢4.00 or 7.5 percent to close at GH¢57.00. The banking group attracted 101,107 shares in turnover, generating GH¢5,763,099 in value, reflecting strong institutional buying interest.

Societe Generale Ghana Plc (SOGEGH) was the session’s most active counter by volume, with 634,549 shares changing hands valued at GH¢7,304,623.46. The stock added GH¢0.42 to close at GH¢11.51.

Scancom Plc (MTNGH), the market’s largest stock by capitalisation at GH¢76.5 billion, contributed the session’s single largest value contribution of GH¢17,827,488.28, with 3,085,929 shares traded. The stock gained GH¢0.02 to close at GH¢5.78.

GCB Bank Plc (GCB) added GH¢3.27 to close at GH¢45.28, with 111,000 shares traded valued at GH¢5,026,060. Enterprise Group Plc (EGL) gained GH¢0.72 to close at GH¢8.20, driven by 102,334 shares worth GH¢839,138.80. Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) added GH¢0.10 to GH¢1.42 on 190,502 shares.

Fan Milk Plc (FML) extended its recent run, gaining GH¢0.54 to close at GH¢15.89, while Standard Chartered Bank Ghana Plc (SCB) jumped GH¢4.29 to GH¢47.24, near its year high of GH¢47.24. Ghana Oil Company Plc (GOIL) gained GH¢0.47 to close at GH¢5.25 and Unilever Ghana Plc (UNIL) added GH¢0.94 to GH¢27.90.

On the Ghana Alternative Exchange (GAX), Hords Plc (HORDS) recorded 195,121 shares traded, the only active counter among the five GAX-listed stocks in the session.

The market remains closed on Friday, March 6, 2026, due to the Independence Day public holiday.
