The Ghana Northern Union of Metropolitan Chicago in the United States on Saturday presented medical equipment valued about $1.5 million to Upper East Regional Health Directorate.

The medical equipment included phototherapy machines for new born babies, dialysis machine, electrical beds, wheel chairs, clutches and laboratory supplies.

Alhaji Alidu Fuseine, Chief Director of the Ghana Northern Union of Metropolitan Chicago, said the donation was made possible through Children of Abraham after his outfit solicited for their support and the cost of shipment which was borne by a mosque in Colorado.

Children of Abraham are made up of various religious groups including Christians, Moslems, Jews among others living in the US who promote peaceful co-existence among the children of God.

Alhaji Fuseine said last year, the Union had presented an ambulance and a container of medical equipment and supplies from the same Children of Abraham to the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

He said ?the Pognaba (Queen Mother) of the Chicago Northern Union, Professor Rufai Misbau, and others have always made their intention to assist  in every regard through their unyielding sacrifice to achieve set objectives in helping to meet the needs of the region.?

He said the Union which is made up of people from the Northern , Upper East and Upper West Regions living in  Metropolitan Chicago of the US would soon be making a similar donation to the Upper West Regional Directorate of Health Service.

Dr James Akpablie, the Upper East Regional Director of Health, thanked the Union and the Children of Abraham for the support saying the health facilities in the Region were in dire need of such items, hence the donation was most welcome.

?With these medical equipment and supplies which are of higher profile we will now be able to provide certain services we couldn?t provide to our patients before.  The Directorate will ensure that the items are made good use of to benefit all patients?, he added.

Dr Peter Baffoe, Medical Director of the Bolgatanga Hospital, praised the donors and appealed to other philanthropists to emulate the example of the Union.
