However, Nana Akufo-Addo is yet to make any comment on the issue.

Meanwhile, the Great Democrats in a statement called on Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo to speak on the issue.

The group pointed out that since the government announced its intention to accept these terrorists, various stakeholders and interested groups have commented on it with some disagreeing with the decision whilst government sees it as normal.

Ibrahim Yahaya, Convener to the group stated in their statement that, “unlike what other responsible opposition party leaders do in other jurisdictions, the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer has surprisingly been silent about the matter”.

“We call on Mr Akufo-Addo, to as a matter of urgency, let Ghanaians Know his position. By so doing, the people of Ghana would have the opportunity to determine what he would do if given the reign of this dear country,” it said.

They also noted that, Nana Akufo-Addo’s history as former Minister of Foreign Affairs and a one time Chairman of the UN Security Council and his position as an expert in international relations and diplomacy should make him an authority on the issue.

“It is therefore in his own interest to express his much touted expert opinions,” the statement further stated.

“We at The Great Democrats believe that, it is high time Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo becomes consistent in choosing what matters to speak on so as to make clear his policy position as an alternative for the populace to assess. It is the same Mr Akufo-Addo who lamented about the late president Mills’ ‘slow’ response to the political crisis in Cote D’Voire.”

“…. By so doing he has given the public the impression that he is forthright on foreign policy matters.”

They called on Nana Addo to be bold enough to make his position known n the matter.
