The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has extended the deadline for filing 2025 Personal Income Tax (PIT) returns from April 30 to May 31, 2026, giving individuals, sole proprietors, and businesses an additional 31 days to organise their financial records and file through the authority’s digital platforms.

The announcement was made on Thursday, April 30, at the GRA headquarters, where Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and his Deputy, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, had earlier filed their own personal tax returns in a public display of compliance intended to set the tone for other taxpayers.

Commissioner of the Domestic Tax Revenue Division (DTRD), Dr. Martin Yamborigya, said the extension is designed to ensure maximum compliance, not to signal leniency. He said the additional window aims to give every taxpayer a reasonable opportunity to meet their obligations without immediate penalty pressure.

The GRA has designated 2026 as a year of compliance, with Commissioner-General Anthony Kwasi Sarpong urging Ghanaians to voluntarily honour their tax responsibilities as part of the government’s revenue mobilisation drive. Officials say the extension is intended to help the authority stay on track with its 2026 fiscal year revenue targets by maximising the number of returns filed rather than triggering penalties that could deter compliance.

Taxpayers can file using the GRA’s online portal at taxpayersportal.com or through the GRA Taxpayers’ App, both of which allow individuals to complete the process digitally without visiting a service centre.
