President John Evans Atta Mills

The spokesperson for the Rawlingses, Kofi Adams, has accused some government officials of amassing wealth and land grabbing under the watch of President John Evans Atta Mills.

According to him, some officials have taken over lands acquired by the State.

Speaking to Citi News on Friday, Mr. Adams maintained that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has lost its moral grounding because of its failure to fight corruption.

He said similar takeovers occurred under the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the NDC is doing same.

“There is a rule that when State acquires lands and the State no longer finds them useful for the purpose on which it acquired the land, the first option goes to the original owners,” Mr. Adams said.

He added: “Once you disobey that rule even if you pay for it is wrong. I couldn’t believe it when in 2009 we were getting reports that some people were getting land in the Ridge areas for GhC 8,000. People have taken lands that are otherwise acquired by the State for other use for which the State is no longer interested and which should have been reverted to the original owners.
