Peter Obi was yesterday conferred with the Chieftaincy title of?Okwute?and his wife,?Olachinyeredi??by the Traditional rulers of the 177 communities in Anambra State at an elaborate ceremony at the Ekwueme square, Awka.
Speaking at the ceremony that attracted traditional rulers from other parts of the country, the Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council and the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe??who put the red cap to Chief Peter Obi?s head said the Royal Fathers ratified the title of?Okwute?which the Governor was already known as. He said the gesture from the 177 Traditional Rulers in Anambra was in appreciation of the Governor?s matchless service to the people of the State. He said that the government of Peter Obi ushered in a glorious era in Anambra socio political life and expressed optimism that the incoming government of Chief Willie Obiano will sustain the Peter Obi legacy.
Also speaking, the traditional ruler of Mbaukwu, Igwe Peter Anugwu disclosed that it was the first time in the State and country anybody had received such an honour in such magnitude. He noted that during his tenure, Gov. Obi elevated Anambra State to a State that had become a reference point in positive things.
Speaking on behalf of visiting traditional rulers, the Traditional ruler of Igala, HRM, and Michael Idoakwu said the Governor had done his people and the entire Nigeria proud by showing exemplary leadership.
Immediately after the event, different societies and organizations took time to present gifts to the Governor.
The Governor, Chief Peter Obi thanked the people for the?honour, which he said was a challenge for him to continue serving humanity through devotion to the ethics of Christ.?
The traditional rulers took turns to eulogise Gov. Obi as the?Moses of Anambra State. Speaking, the Traditional Ruler of Agulu, Chief Peter Obi?s home town, Igwe Innocent Obodoakor said he was proud of his son, Peter Obi for proving that Anambra State could be governable. The proud Igwe said that Peter Obi had particularly made the people of Agulu proud by the massive development he unleashed on the State. He said that what was most amazing about him was the development of all the 177 communities in the State without discrimination on any basis including on the basis of those that voted for him or not.
Over 200 traditional rulers were present for the event, including the Chairman of South-East Traditional Council, HRM, Igwe Ilomuanya, the Jaja??of Opobo and Ata of Igala, Michael Idoakwu.
