Akpabio who spoke Monday at the official opening and dedication service of the St. Lucy Catholic Church, Ukana Ikot Ntuen in Essien Udim Local Government Area, remarked, “Our donation of the church is to thank God for his faithfulness towards me, my family and the entire State. We decided to make a mega contribution to the church and we feel privileged to do so”.

“The gift we have presented to the church is done with a contrite heart as God has given us the grace to do so. We would continue to live the life of emulation of Jesus Christ and we believe that with this gift, God has brought light and blessings to Ukana and the entire Essien Udim Local Government Area”.

In his homily, the Catholic Bishop of Ikot-Ekpene, Most Rev. Dr. Camilus Umoh, who said the gift of the church has brought salvation to the land and to all those who are present at the event, thanked the Governor and family for thinking and deciding wisely to do all what they had done for the Catholic church and the entire Christendom.

He further said the church is primarily for people who worship God in spirit and in truth, pointing out that the beauty of the church is a reminder that there should be beauty within every Christian in worshiping God.

Most Rev. Dr. Umoh pointed out that Christians should be truly converted and sincere in their worship towards God, and stressed that when Christians are in union with God, that is when they truly worship God.

The man of God said the dedication of the church was a symbol that God is with the people, which also translates to the re-dedication of the people to God, promising God that they would live the values of the gospel, that is loving one another.

Also speaking, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Donald Udoh, who thanked God for all his blessings, protection and strength that the church has enjoyed throughout the period of execution of the project, also thanked Most Rev. Dr. Camilus Umoh for his parental encouragement and most especially for approving the commissioning of the project.

He said he was grateful to the state Governor and family for erecting and donating the magnificent edifice to God to be used as a place of worship, prayed that God should reward them, and lauded the zealous effort of the contractor who handled the project.

Rev. Fr Udoh also thanked the entire church and the people who had all come out en-mass to share in their joy.
